Southern Hepplewhite Wing Chair
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Early 19th century, eastern North Carolina or Southside Virginia, mahogany legs, poplar secondary wood.

47 x 35 x 26 in.

Known as the "Wood Family Wing Chair," it is believed the chair was first owned by Charles Wingfield Wood and his wife Mary Skinner, of "Woodlands," Hertford, NC., Perquiman's County. The home "Woodlands" was destroyed by fire in the 1920s and the Wood Family Chair was one of the few articles saved by the consignor's grandmother who was living in the home at the time. It has remained in the family for almost 200 years.

Alden Identification Service has identified the secondary wood as Tulip Poplar.
