1940 - Exhibition for Finnish Relief, Grand Central Galleries, Gotham Hotel, New York, NY (held 21 January through 6 February 1940).

This painting retains its original exhibition label, which is signed and titled by the artist's secretary.

The Exhibition for Finnish Relief was sponsored by the NYC Mayor's Committee for Finnish Relief and was assembled through the cooperation of nineteen art galleries in New York, including Macbeth Gallery which represented Andrew Wyeth. One hundred and forty-six American artists contributed their work to the exhibition which benefited civilian relief in Finland. The works were sold in a blind auction with bidders placing the amount of their bids and the title of the desired painting in a secret box. (New York Times, 21 January 1940).
