Imperial Japanese Officer's WWII Shin-gunto Katana Sword
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Ray skin grip, the brass kashiri (pommel), tsuba (guard) and fuchi (collar) incorporate the royal crysanthemum, the face of the kashiri having a small signed silver cartouche; the steel blade is sheathed in a steel scabbard with regulation brass mounts.

Blade 27.5 in., 38.25 in. overall.

All elements of the grip and guard are secured with an apparently home-made metal pin; given subsequent difficulties of release, the sword has not been disassembled for examination of the tang; the grip lacks its pierced wrap; the blade has moderate oxidation that is especially apparent on one side; traces of red lacquer wash are on the scabbard. Overall in untouched attic condition.
