Acquired directly from his estate. Mr. Sydnor was a major donor to the American wing at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Born in Scotland, Kennedy spent the bulk of his working life in and around Philadelphia. He is highly regarded for his 1876 scenes of the Centennial Exposition.
