Unsigned, Kano school jar seal mark on lower right, decorated with a pair of Mandarin ducks symbolizing fidelity, mounted on a brocade-covered board within a gilt wooden frame, not behind glass.

The Kano school of artists are a well known family of artists spanding generations in Japan. The jar seal was often used by the Kano school artists. The particular seal on this painting is very similar to the seal on the "Portrait of Masuda Motoyoshi" by Kano Shoei in the Iwami Art Museum's collection. Kano Shoei was the father of Kano Eitoku, who was the head of the Kano school during the Momoyama period (1573-1615) in Japan.
