Doron received his MFA from Moscow Art Institute. He taught painting and drawing in Moscow and made a living as a book illustrator, but emigrated to the United States in 1981 due to increasing political pressures in Russia.

Since settling in Connecticut, recognition for Doron's work has come in the form of gold medals from Knickerbocker Artists, New Haven Paint and Clay Club, Ridgefield Guild of Arts, the Hartford Museum of Art and the Pastel Society of America.
