Robert Hrynkiw studied at the Art Students League of New York during 1969, concentrating on polychromed sculpture. In 1970, he began teaching color theory at the New York School of Interior Design. In 1980, he received a substantial grant from the Connecticut Commission of Arts, aiding in his ‘color structure’ explorations.

A similar painting, also dated 1981, is in the collection of the The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, Chicago, IL.
