Howard joined the faculty of UNC-Chapel Hill in the early 1950s. He exhibited frequently throughout the United States, including the Museum of Modern Art, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. His public sculptures dot the American landscape.
