Irish George II Shell Carved Triple Back Settee

Circa 1740, mahogany, figured mahogany veneers, having a triple curved back splat, each splat surmounted by a relief carved shell, the shaped arms terminate in an eagle's head which is distinguished by a pronounced beak, shaped slip seat, the burled veneer of the conforming rail is detailed with an applied shell. The settee is a six leg form, each of the four front legs of cabriole form with relief carved shell, terminating in a raised spade foot.
