From the collection of a gentleman who worked for the state department starting in the late 1950s and later for the United Nations. He and his wife lived in many places in Southeast Asia and also in Ethiopia.

The carving was removed from China during the cultural revolution and transported into Hong Kong where it was subsequently acquired by the current owner.

Good condition with some wear and loss on the exterior edges of wood; gilded figures are in very good condition except for one on side has lost his head; the back is cracked across in two places.
