20th century, oil on board, a pair depicting, respectively, the C.S.S. Virginia and U.S.S. Monitor, each engaged in their historic duel at Hampton Roads, Virginia on March 9, 1862. The paintings are set into custom frames of beveled walnut and they are intended to be displayed together as one continuous scene.
