Circa 1840, the silvered 3.5 in. dial signed "Arnold & Dent. / 84. Strand London No 1310," subsidiary dials for seconds and wind status, key-wound fusee movement, the instrument on gimbel mount under glass in a three-part lidded mahogany case having brass side handles and key hole escutcheon, the lid's interior affixed with an early 20th century metal plate detailing proper shipping procedure. Partners John Roger and Edward Dent produced exquisite watches and chronometers between 1830 and 1840. Their instruments were highly regarded by famous expedition leaders such as Charles Darwin and David Livingstone.
