Circa 1800-1820, walnut with poplar secondary, the top with double scratch beaded edge above a frieze which disguises two concealed open trays accessible when the short drawers are removed, the two-over-three lipped drawers are supported by a shaped bracket foot base.

43.75 x 39.5 x 19.5 in.

This chest belongs to a small group of case pieces associated with artisans working in Randolph County, in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Foremost among these artisans was Jesse Needham, to whom this chest is attributed.

Top with some stains; replaced appropriate pulls; hairline split to both right and left rear feet.
