Pastel on paper, unsigned, circa 1800, of New York printer, bookseller, & stationer Samuel A. Burtus (1778-1817) and his Virginia bride Rachel King A. Burtus (1782-1829). The husband's portrait is presented in a plain wooden frame with a beaded inner border (DOA 30 x 24.5 in.); the wife's portrait is in a gilt and gesso frame (DOA 27 x 23.5 in.).
