Mid-18th century, oil on canvas, lined, three quarter length portrait of a gilt in silk robe with lace collar and ostrich plumed hat, painted in an oval, unsigned, presented in a later antique gilt frame. Inscribed on the canvas "No. Hatfield House / 1839" above the the stretcher and inscribed "Earl Egmont / John Perceval / Age Seven Years / born 1712" below the center stretcher. The frame retains an old paper label in script reading "Lady (illegible) / B. 1632 (illegible) D. 1674 / This portrait has been in (illegible) dispute as to the / artist. Although it shows the master touch of van Dyck, / it somewhat favours Sir G. Kneller. The expressive / shadowing could easily be taken for either of these / artists. It has however been passed for exhibit. / (Feb. 2nd, 1859) F. Benson."
