(German, 1894-1915); cold painted bronze and ivory mounted to a black stone base, marked with "RP" stamp to side. Mephistopheles, a creature of the devil, figures prominently in German literature, the most notable instance being his active role in Goethe's "Faust". The demon is characterized as being cold-hearted, cynical, and witty.
