Made circa 1868, parcel gilt, the angular pear form body with double handles and raised on a stepped foot, each side decorated with cast and applied portrait medallion within an engraved cartouche, the body with a burnished surface, the neck with further engraved floral swag designs and applied die-rolled band, Gorham hallmarks and numbered 60, also marked "A."

Accompanied by a letter from Samuel Hough, proprietor of The Owl at the Bridge in Cranston, Rhode Island and an expert on Gorham sterling, indicates that over 13 hours were spent by the craftsmen at Gorham to complete this vase.
