A self-taught artist, Walter Thrift (1922-1969) garnered much acclaim for his work. The Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Virginia mounted an exhibition of his work in 1964, titled "Recent Painting by Walter Thrift." His work is in numerous public and private collections including the Mint Museum in Charlotte and the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida.
