Collection of Paul Glanvill Shinkman, grandson of Sir Ernest John Pickstone Benn

This painting originally hung at the headquarters of Benn Brothers Publishers, Bouverie House on Fleet Street, London. In 1984, the company moved to the suburbs of London and the collection of family portraits were given to family members. This portrait was given to Sir Benn's grandson, Paul Glanvill Shinkman. Paul spent summers with his grandparents in Oxted, Surrey and remembers his Grandpa as looking "exactly like he does in the portrait." Two books are included with this lot: THE CONFESSIONS OF A CAPITALIST by Ernest Benn (London: Ernest Benn Limited, 1948) and ORPEN: MIRROR TO AN AGE by Bruce Arnold (London: Jonathan Cape, 1981).
