19th century, the first after Nicolas-Andre Monsiau's 1801 painting "Le Lion de Florence" depicting a mother pleading to the Lion of Florence to release her babe from is mouth, which according to legend, the lion heeded the mother's plea; worked in bead below the image reads "Lion de Florence / dŽdiŽ ˆ mon pre" (dedicated to my dear father) and the maker's name "Anais." Housed under glass and presented in gilt and gesso frame (SS 8.75 x 10.75 in.; DOA 11.75 x 13.75 in.); the second depicting a maiden feeding her parrot as it looks down at her from its perch. Housed under glass and presented in gilt and gesso frame (SS 8.5 x 10.5 in.; DOA 12.5 x 14.5 in.).
