Rare Limoges China Set With Applied Lace

Late 19th century, (33) pieces, the undersides of the plates with a Limoges mark and signed "Gregoretti Pauly &c / Venezia" or variants thereof, the other articles signed only by Pauly, all having blue outer glaze with gilded rims, each overlaid with a different white lace, some pieces monogrammed "PB," to include: (12) luncheon plates (9.5 in.); (12) dessert plates (8.25 in.); a three-piece tea service (teapot, 7.5 in.); (6) demitasse cups with (6) saucers (4.25 in.).

This unusual china was born of an international collaboration whereby unfired French porcelain was decorated by an Italian firm. The lace patterns were created by applying actual lace that had been dipped in china slip.
