The Giles Family Southern Federal Inlaid Sideboard

Circa 1790-1810, Wilmington, North Carolina, mahogany, mahogany veneer, yellow pine and poplar secondary, three upper side by side drawers above a central recessed cabinet concealed by two hinged doors flanked by two deep drawers, the case raised on six square tapered legs, important inlay details include each drawer and door with a triple line inlaid lozenge form, top of stiles feature a vertical side by side inlay above a 3.75 inch diamond line inlay above a paneled line inlay, the top of each leg features an inlaid pinwheel above a line inlay tapered panel, cuff inlays to lower leg.

Three long separation cracks to top; replaced pulls; plugs and patches to left and right upper side drawers where pulls once were; several veneer chips and losses; both deep drawers with cut and patch at escutcheons; veneer buckling to right deep drawer; replaced hinges to cabinet doors; cut and patch to left cabinet door at inside corner; later bracing to underside of top board and side panels; other imperfections.
