Circa 1810, Piedmont region, walnut, with poplar secondary wood, dovetail construction with exposed dovetails to top, rose head and cut nails to the backboards; the case features an applied cove molded cornice above three-over-two over four graduated lipped and molded drawers, each with 3/4 dust boards and with appropriate bale and rosette pulls in original holes, raised on an applied spurred molded bracket foot base.

59 x 41 x 23.5 in.

Uppermost narrow backboard is removable revealing two open horizontal compartments each with unattached document drawers. One drawer found to contain 1909 hand-written history of this chest. Available upon request.

Old refinish; wood split (with grain) to right side at rear; some back board nails either replaced or reset; one foot facing re-glued; two replaced glue blocks; missing a lock.
