Massachusetts, circa 1800, mahogany, mahogany veneers, secondary wood of white pine, two part form, the top section with hinged lid over storage well, also with two hinged cabinet doors enclosing a divided desk interior; the lower section with hinged fold-out writing surface with loper supports, above four graduated drawers, shaped skirt with spurs, original French bracket foot base.

Embellished with herringbone and checkerboard inlay; finely figured mahogany veneers. The lady's desk and bookcase was a new form introduced during the Federal period 1800-1810. Original pencil inscription on bottom inside board.

Separation cracks at base; minor chipping and loss at feet; loss and wear to later felt writing surface; later brasses.
