Born in Washington, D.C., Prentiss Taylor studied at the Corcoran Gallery of Art before heading North and finding his calling in lithography at the Art Students League. In "The Lithographs of Prentiss Taylor: A Catalogue Raisonne," it is noted that Taylor considered Fort Washington one of the great American buildings of its time.
