To include (4) plaster copies of seals and (10) plaster impressions coated to imitate various shades of seal wax. This labeled collection, once owned by Bruno Bitter (1898 - 1987), a German Jesuit priest working in Japan, represents European municipal, educational and religious institutions of the late Medieval and Renaissance periods. Presented in their original hinged box with old photocopies showing seal collections.

Included is a typed 1939 letter from Bitter to Dr. Thomas Darlington of New York in which the priest discusses selling the seals in America.

A few edge chips, else intact; cotton remnants from old packing adhere to some of the impressions; the box hinge is quite loose and one hasp eyelet is lacking.
