Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Likely German, circa 1850, two-part hexagonal form with hand-painted panel, the four side panes painted to represent stained glass windows, the front and back delicately painted with scenes from Hamlet. The veilleuse-theiere was intended for use as a night light, the candle shining behind the porcelain illuminating the scenes, this form would have had a teapot which fit the indentation on top.

8 x 6 x 4.25 in.

Estate of Barbara T. Parker of Raleigh, North Carolina

This type of "night-light" was introduced during Napoleon's reign as he disliked sleeping in the dark and was often billeted in drafty quarters.
