Ripley is considered by many to be the pre-imminent American sporting artist. In 1936, he began working with the Sportsman's Gallery of Art and Books in New York City creating scenes from hunting trips in New England during the summer months and Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina during the winter. These travels provided some of his best subject matter, including this fine Southern scene of gentleman hunters and their dogs in a rural landscape.
