The first, from Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, circa 1860, shows a Mason wearing a tinted I.O.O.F. apron identified to Nesshanock Lodge, #521. The subject rests his arm on a book titled "Western Annals"; the second image was taken outdoors of a young boy sitting astride a complacent donkey.

The Masonic image has peripheral haloing, its case lid detached with a small scuff; the case lid is loose for the second image.
