The stamps, many with light creases, retain their original gum. LaFayette Guild of Alabama was the Confederacy's Chief Surgeon as of 1862, serving directly under Robert E. Lee until war's end. The envelope of stamps offered here surfaced in papers pertaining to the Cobb Family of Wayne County, NC. These documents were preserved by former Confederate surgeon Dr. William Henry Harrison Cobb and include an 1861 slave hire contract and several legal documents from the 1850s and 1860s.
