Oil on canvas, possibly a Continental scene, depicted are figures beside and upon a muddy rural lane. Presented in a period gilt and gesso frame, "Landscape by G. R. Bonfield" inscribed on the stretcher. Bonfield emigrated with his parents from England to Philadelphia at an early age. After studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and under Thomas Birch, Bonfield established his reputation as a skillful marine and landscape artist.
