Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Watercolor and gouache on paper, signed "C. Wescott" lower left, an Edisto Island beach is littered with debris following a hurricane. Presented in the original Art Deco carved wooden frame with Lannlau's Art Store / Charleston label on paper backing. Edisto native Cecil Wescott was by all accounts one of the island's more colorful characters in his day. Though also a musician, storyteller and postmaster, Westcott's enduring legacy survives as a visual artist. His folksy paintings of Edisto Island are highly prized by local collectors. Indeed, a Westcott scene graces the cover of Charles Spencer's EDISTO ISLAND, 1861 - 2006.
