Private Collector in Eastern North Carolina

James and Luola Sprunt purchased Orton Plantation from her father's estate in 1904. The couple lovingly restored and remodeled the home and developed a flower garden. The Sprunt's son, James Laurence Sprunt, and his second wife, continued to enlarge the gardens throughout the 1930s and opened their garden to the public in order to raise money to cover a family member's medical expenses following an automobile accident. Louis Orr completed an etching of the Orton Plantation and a second of the gardens in the early 1940s as part of his grand North Carolina series. This etching was likely gifted to the Sprunts while working on the views of their home.

Not examined out of the frame.
