The first by Carl Julien (SC, b.1897), pencil signed and titled "Mystery" on the mattboard, mounted and framed under glass (Image 13.5 x 10.5 in.; DOA 21.5 x 17 in.); the second also by Carl Julien, pencil signed and titled "Edisto" on the matt board, mounted and framed under glass (Image 13.5 x 10.5 in.; DOA 21.5 x 17 in.); the third by J. Day, pencil signed and titled "Woodland Arch" on the matt board, mounted, unframed (Image 13.5 x 10.5 in.).

Carl Julien of Greenwood, SC was a prolific Southern photographer. He illustrated several books including Beneath So Kind a Sky, Sea Island to Sand Hills, Pee Dee Panorama, Architects of Charleston, Song of the Cotton Picker, and Seed from Madagascar. He also mentored fellow photographers by addressing the Camera Club of Charleston at the Gibbes Art Gallery.
