Barry, James, AN INQUIRY INTO THE REAL AND IMAGINARY OBSTRUCTIONS TO THE ACQUISITION OF THE ARTS IN ENGLAND, (London: T. Becket, 1775), 227 pp., octavo (8.75 x 5.5 in.), full calf with red title plate on the spine. Dedicated to King George III, this work outlines the reasons its author considers British art inferior to that of Italy and France. The inside front cover carries a bookplate reading "Phil. C. Pendleton" while the front free endpaper is signed by the same. This person was possibly Judge Pendleton of Virginia (1779 - 1863).

Covers disbound, stained and scuffed; interior with light foxing; binding remains tight. Overall good condition.
