Three Piece Cloisonne Scholar Set

19th century, colorfully enameled with scrolling vines and blossoms on a turquoise ground, including a long rectangular lidded box with interior wells for ink and seals with additional space to accommodate brushes (DOA 8 x 15 x 5.75); and (2) low bowls of hexagonal tapered form (3.5 x 7 x 6.25). The pieces are mounted with gilt bronze rims and shaped feet.

Purchased from Spink in London in the 1940s. From the collection of Dr. & Mrs. Petrie of Pittsboro, North Carolina

Overall pitting to the enamel; rubbing to gilt in some places. The low bowls with conforming wooden stands, (1) foot lost.
