A prolific illustrator and artist, Fischer's seascapes and ship paintings, such as this, are his finest work. In addition to painting, he was a lifelong sailor. In 1943 he exhibited works executed while sailing with the Coast Guards during WWII. His paintings are found in the Coast Guard Museum, Mystic Seaport Museum, and Kendall Whaling Museum.
