George Nakashima Minguren I Table

(Japanese-American, 1905-1990), with convex shaped top, 1 1/8 in thick, on cross formed base (Minguren I). The top composed of a beautiful single highly figured walnut board. Nakashima's balance between art-form, everyday use and respect for the beauty in nature can be seen by the use of the figured board and simple design of this Minguren I table. Unsigned, customer name "Levy" in black on bottom.

Purchased in the 1960s and the mid 1970s directly from George Nakashima, the furnishings were a prized possession and the centerpiece for many family dinners and festive occasions. Letter of provenance accompanies lot. Private Collection of Edgar and Ann Levy, Bridgewater, New Jersey, currently Raleigh, North Carolina
