Indo-Persian Kulah Khud Helmet with Shield

19th century or earlier, the helmet of domed form surmounted with a four-sided spike and two plume sockets, adjustable nose guard below, the rim is decorated with Arabic inscriptions and is affixed with a fine chain mail neck guard. Included is a small round shield of similar style, the face of which is adorned with four prominent bosses. The outer surfaces of both pieces are heavily engraved, inlaid with silver and gilt.

Helmet 19 in.; Shield 16 in. diameter.

A few tiny areas of loss to the mail; some scattered copper-toned stains on both items. Overall fine condition.
