Davidson or Guilford County, North Carolina, circa 1820, walnut, poplar secondary with yellow pine bottom board; one piece Chippendale form, the crest with a swan's neck broken-arch pediment, having central reeded and diamond inlaid plinth, also with carved rosettes and finials. Two hinged doors with eight panes and molded mullions opening to reveal a three shelved interior with plate rail; central waist with applied molded cove molding above a stepped scalloped detail. Two lower paneled doors with beveled applied quarter fans, central inlaid stylized concave diamond; raised on ogee bracket foot with spur. HOA 99 in. (96 in. top of rosette) x 53 x 32 in (corner depth).

Research reveals the inlaid pediment relates to a documented John Swisegood (Davidson County, NC 1796-1874) corner cupboard in the MESDA files: #38948, photo # S-1104. Later wax surface, later glazing to support early blown glass, lower portion of ogee foot tipped by 2.25 in. Note: Upper ogee feet and spurs original. Rear block foot replaced, other minor shrinkage cracks consistent with age.
