Washington, D.C., January 5, 1905, one page, partially printed with orange State Department seal, this diplomatic passport names retired Brigadier General John M. E. Hyde. Matted behind glass in a modern gold tone metal frame. John Hay (1838 - 1905) served as Secretary of State under William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt, however is best remembered for being Abraham Lincoln's personal assistant during the Civil War.
