A London born artist, Dawson-Watson eventually ended up in Texas after a lengthy art career. Gifted in art from an early age, Dawson-Watson was sponsored by a brewer to study under Carolus Duran, John Singer Sargent's teacher, in Paris. Following this instruction, he spent the next five years in Giverny. An American friend then convinced Dawson-Watson to relocate to the States where he obtained a position as Director of the Hartford Art Society in Ct. After a brief sojourne to the UK, he returned to the states and lived at Byrdecliff Colony and then St. Louis. While in St. Louis he met several wealthy Texans who convinced him to move to San Antonio where he fell in love with the Western landscape. Uncommon for many artists, it is these later paintings that are his most sought after - particularly his impressionist style renderings of the Grand Canyon which capture the brilliant and fleeting lights and colors on one of nature's most beautiful vistas.
