Born on the Crow Indian Reservation in Lodge Grass, Montana, Kevin Red Star was one of the first students chosen to attend the newly established Institute of American Indian Arts in Sante Fe. He later continued his studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. He has exhibited extensively throughout the United States including the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, CM Russell Museum, Heard Museum, Denver Art Museum, Southwest Museum, Whitney Museum of Western Art, Institute of American Indian Arts Museum, and the United States Department of State.
