Circa 5th century B.C., the object appears to have been fashioned from a small bowl and uses a period Egyptian amulet of Osiris for a clapper! An early 20th century hang tag affixed to the handle is inscribed "Italy. Excavations at Cumae - Idol for tongue. guaranteed 500 B.C."

Bell 4 in. diameter; Osiris 2.75 in.

Heavily encrusted with green verdigris.
