Early 18th century, yellow pine, rectangular top with nice overhang, flush skirt with pegged mortise and tenon joint, boldly turned legs and stretcher base.

29.5 x 48 x 32 in.

Early ownership by George Lee Turberville (VA, 1760-1798), son of Col. John Turberville (1737-1799) and Martha Corbin (1738-1792). A Revolutionary War veteran rising to the rank of major, George Lee Turberville is listed in the 15th Virginia Regiment as a captain of the 10th Company composed of men from his home county of Westmoreland. Correspondence to General George Washington and with James Madison is on file in the National Archives. Lot accompanied with 18th century book plate bearing the Arms of Turberville with motto Omnia Relinquit Servare Rempulicam (They gave up all to serve the Republic).

Top cut and reset; appropriate wear to stretcher; lower three inches of turned foot likely old replacements.
