Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Early 19th century, river birch with yellow pine secondary, (2) deep side by side drawers over (3) graduated drawers all with string inlay and diamond inlaid escutcheons, the case with a handsomely scalloped skirt raised on French feet.

45 x 39 x 20 in.

Estate Collection of Pete & Betty Snow, Historic Hennigan Place, Matthews, North Carolina

Unusual mortise and tenon foot construction. South Carolina (probably Sumter) provenance. The chest indicates an artisan working within the vernacular idiom; a locally made piece utilizing indigenous woods in the secondary and primary positions, but employing technique and form that clearly demonstrate the makers awareness of the more sophisticated urban examples.

Top reset; (2) back boards replaced; drawers with new guides and runners; (1) new base block; possibly some replaced brasses and posts; some inlay loss to top side and base.

$1,200 - 1,800
