Oil on canvas, signed at lower right "Abeles," housed in the original wooden frame, retaining an old artist's label listing the artist's name, the title "Meal in the Studio," and listing Abeles address as "Myrtle Beach," the stretcher is also stamped "Sig Abeles."

Born in New York City, Abeles was raised in Myrtle Beach, SC and recieved his AB in Fine Arts from the University of South Carolina in 1955. He then returned to New York and continued his studies at the Brooklyn Museum School and the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture. He then received his MFA from Columbia University in 1957. Abeles taught at The University of New Hampshire for 27 years and is primarily known for works dealing "with the expressive and psychological aspects of the human figure (and animals); an art focused on the entire life cycle." (www.sigmundabeles.com). His works have been in numerous shows including "From Whence I Came," a retrospective held at the Burroughs-Chapin Museum of Art in Myrtle Beach, SC in 2007.
