Alice Northrop, grandmother of the consignor, was asked by Helen Gould to live with her at Lyndhurst as companion after Jay's death in 1892. Eventually, after Helen's marriage to the consignor's grandfather, Charles Snow, the families built side by side houses in Roxbury, NY. Helen gave Alice many gifts of items original to Lyndhurst, including this rug.

Selvedge worn; several areas of pile worn to the foundation; some loss to fringe ends.
