In green, brown, and gold thread on loose weave natural linen, depicting a double chimney house flanked by evergreen trees with the brown trunk extending into the foliage of the tree, typical of the Easton group of samplers of Northampton County, with irregular bud and diamond shaped leaf border; with verse and signed by maker, "Susanna Lerch October the 7 1832 / Northampton County Rauba Ville." For similar examples, see "Girlhood Embroidery Volume II" by Betty Ring, figures 509 and 510. Gifting information en verso reads, "This sampler is to be give to Annie Ludlow Canon / Mrs. Joseph F. Canon / Concord / North Carolina / Nan and Bert Merhar / December 1st 1927."
