Two nude pugilists in pose, on a black stone base with hand-etched signature "E. Encke FEC" and "AKT-GES Gladenbeck." This animated grouping is based on "Faustkamfer," a large public sculpture in Hamburg dating to 1913. Encke had also created a "Faustkamfer" statue for the Fehrbelliner Plazt in Berlin as well. This statue was cast at the Gladenbeck foundry in Berlin, and, based on the signature may have been produced between 1900 and 1910.
